It was time to get the latest road observations off the recorder. Here are some that made the cut….

Vanity plates are the most frequent observation from the driver's seat.

There are those drivers who earn a living as DRM MKR, CPN747, DRVIDEO, TCHSKUL or CLNEMUP

Some people are paid not to work like EXAIR4S

Or WYYWORK if you don’t have to

Then there are those where a hobby is the focus: BHUNTIN, TOYGEEK, SRFZSNO, HOSLVER (horse lover – I hope), 1ORBNJO (one man banjo band?)

For some it is about the vehicle: XSPOWER (on a Corvette), HMMALNG (on a Hummer), BZBZBZY (sporty Mercedes), BREEZY (on VW convertible), ITZ ME (on a compact pickup), MTHRLWD (Mom’s taxi(?) is a Ford Excursion)

A philosophical message appears as KRE8T

A personal admission can be good: I AM NUTS

If you have offended anyone, there is this nagging reminder RU4GVN.

Clever business names were JACK THE CLIPPER (a barber) and THINK TWICE TATTOOS

A raggedly dressed guy at an intersection begging for hand-outs holds up a sign with the single word IMAGINE. Hmmm.
Vanity Plates...

MACS EX – the ex needed an identity. More likely EX is a car model belonging to Mac.

GRTPMKN -- on a white car. Perhaps an illusion to Cinderella's coach.

ITHTUNU – Sorry. But I didn't.

2UGLY -- on a Honda Element. That is what the teenager told Mom when she bought the car.

BIOBTL -- on a diesel powered VW bug

MUCH MPG -- fast moving Toyota Prius was not achieving the goal

JL SEGUL – Jonathon Livingston Seagull philosophy for the owner of this car. A quote from the book that I like: The gulls who scorn perfection for the sake of travel go nowhere, slowly. Those who put aside travel for the sake of perfection go anywhere, instantly.

INKERS -- on a car in tattoo business with a bumper sticker: WE TURN NORMAL PEOPLE INTO FREAKS EVERY DAY

4WHTLTN – on a white SUV Lexus

DZOMBIE – why is this on a Lexus

CJONGO – and she was moving

Can't decode this one:

4NORA2K – foreigner a 2000... foreign or a 2000...

More without comment:

"PLAVADA"...."BNYHNTR"...."42NDST1"...."HI MILG"...."EYELOVE"...."ALL SWAG"
"DOGGYDC"...."89 GATOR"...."4LZRD"...."SEAMEGO"...."SVNCEES"...."FUDG RPL"
Vanity Plates:

AVECXO -- Truly original.... With a hug and a kiss.

TECDUDE -- on an SUV. For me, tech is computers. Perhaps, tech might be automobile tech.

RUFLUS -- But it's not a convertible.... or "are you flu s"

WEKAMP -- on a truck pulling fifth wheel

TEEBIRD -- on a Lexus SUV. That is just plain wrong.

RCKNGMA -- There seemed to be a little swing in that car.

DGTL DAN -- As opposed to analog?

BFLMNGO -- “be flamingo” ...or... “be flame and go” ...or...?

KEPROKN -- keep rockin'

XYLITOL -- The driver is sweet as sugar, but with half the calories.

LUCPOPO -- No idea... or... all you see po po

H8RMTRL -- on Hummer. No idea.... hater empty rl ... hate rmt rl

More without comment: "LUV4LIF" "THEJET" "KING PN" "CATL8EE" "N2READN"
"WADADAY" "ELSBELS" "VISE ED" "XFYRTK"

Bumper Sticker: WE ARE CREATING ENEMIES FASTER THAN WE CAN KILL THEM

On license plate holder: MONEY ISN'T EVERYTHING BUT IT KEEPS THE KIDS IN TOUCH

Great Business Names:..... GIANT BEAVER TREE SERVICE....... MEATHEAD MOVERS

Ya gotta wonder department... CALIFORNIA MEN'S COLONY is the name of a prison near San Luis Obispo. This is taking political correctness too far.

In closing... a homeless RV in a Santa Barbara grocery store parking lot...

It took a long time to rewind the recorder to the beginning. Real obvious was the first vanity plate spotted. It was from Bisbee, Arizona. It was last November when I was in Bisbee. Perhaps I should report the recordings more frequently. Yes I should. But will I?

This is an abbreviated selection of the best, the clever, the unusual – according to me.

BZBBRBR – Bisbee Barber, (first entry on the recorder)

BBYHMMR – on a Honda Element

MYT42N8 – Mighty fortunate on a Porsche Carrera

GAZINUP – An astronomer?

TEAMPNR – Rodeo event specialty?

IMAPST – Okay. But leave me alone.

CHKN BIZ – Raising them or fast food chicken

BUX TWK – Buck owns the truck

I DKTR – A doctor or an eye doctor?

GTRBOY – Californian graduated from University of Florida?

RUSMRT – on a Smart car

Not near as clever, but added without comment:

SRFMAMA......GR8FN......LILKARR......FUDDY......IRISHK9......IB PEPR......SURVIVL

DYR WLF......RD2ROL......SUBMNR......PLAYIN......THTS ME......TNBELLE......ITSZDAY

CIAOKTY......TRYSCBA......JUSCHLLN......WRM FZ E......GRMAOF6

Other notes from the recorder:

Overheard mother speaking to her daughter, “Your social life improved and your grades went down.”

Harley-Davidson rider groups have to have jackets. Spotted this jacket on a rather large rider, “BIG BELLY HAWGS”. Wonder what the criteria are to qualify.

A business: CHURCH OF STEEL – BODY PIERCING AND TATTOO

A “punny” dog day care business: CAMP RUN-A-MUTT

JOS AURA -- Assume it was a Saturn, but it went too fast.

TAX GUY -- CPA?

TAXXDOG -- Same parking lot had this one. Dog licenser?

MI TWUCK -- Belongs to Elmer Fudd

BYE Z 71 -- Perhaps the successor to a Z71?

GODEEP4 -- Brett Favre fan?

B WEIRD -- Good advice

PLN2WN -- On Green Bay Packer Logo Plates

CME4HMS -- Real estate sales?

PIANST -- Profession

YNG 8 HRT -- That's good.

N 2 PACK -- Probably Packer fan

NUTCASE -- Drive carefully near this one.

WILD1 -- Another one?

BLK GLD -- Oil makes the payments on this Texas car?

Idol worship at its worst...

Spotted a sign in Oklahoma as I entered a city:
"Home of Carrie Underwood -- 2005 American Idol"

Clever Business Names...

RIVER OF INK TATTOO

QUICKER LIQUORS

On a church's marquee...

GOD WANTS YOU TO HAVE FINANCIAL FREEDOM
(the cynic in me would finish that with, "Leave your money here at the church")

Bumper Stickers...

Wonder what the story is behind this spotted in Wisconsin:
WHEN I GET OLD, I'M GOING TO MOVE NORTH AND DRIVE SLOW IN THE LEFT LANE

AT LEAST I CAN SMOKE IN MY CAR

I'M ALL THAT'S LEFT OF A BIZARRE CHILDHOOD
WINDRIG -- No sail on this vehicle. Perhaps into kites.

THE48S -- On a Class A RV no doubt traveling the lower 48 states.

R YLWTRK -- Yup. It was on a yellow truck.

WTADAY -- Agreed!

GOOFIN -- on a mini car

Unable to interpret or respond to these....

THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN'T BE SOLVED BY THE USE OF HIGH EXPLOSIVES

Vanity Plates

COWS -- Wyoming rancher?

XOXOXO -- Might be a bit too friendly. But it might be a way to stem road rage.

BOOKBUG -- Of course it was a VW!

PRSRVIT -- Ecologically minded driver

AERONOT -- Pilot?

CAPECOD -- On old beat up car with Montana plates. Or was that the effects of salt spray?

LOSTTXN -- Nostalgia on Montana plates

SOOOEY -- On a Harley Davidson

CRMUDGN -- Telling like it is!

Billboard Advertising

A Holiday Inn board says something like "Best Guest Rated Shower" Does that mean one guest complimented them on their shower? Their showers do not have water savers?

An ATT billboard ad stated that they had fewer dropped calls. How could that possibly be measured among the various providers of cell phone service.

Weird RV Pet

When I stopped at a freeway rest area in Montana, I was just pulling out of the parking lot when I noticed a lady getting out of an older RV with Florida license plates. She was standing at the bottom of the steps calling to a pet to come out. It did. It was a chicken. Then the lady headed to the grassy area with a bag that she was rattling. The chicken (hen) followed obviously looking to get whatever bird treats were in that bag. I watched a few minutes more as treats were scattered on the ground and the hen dutifully pecked the ground. Since it looked like a long wait for me to see the return trip, I decided to head on my journey.

Can a chicken be house broken? A hen as a pet for fresh eggs? Why else a hen for a pet?

Driving near a new subdivision in Casa Grande, AZ, the sign was Ocean View Street. The water was a huge pond dug in the desert with a few palm trees on its shore.

Vanity Plates:

HERMINI -- on a Cooper. Could there be a "HISMINI"

LV2GAIT -- on a Honda. Seems more appropriate for a Mustang

RLRSK8R -- looked like a car to me

FOCUSUP -- on a car that had been rear ended

ONAQWST -- on a Toyota -- not a Nissan

BRRR -- on Wyoming plates spotted in Phoenix

XSKULLX -- skull and crossbones?

FDXPIL8 -- Fed-ex Pilot?

And more: "GYPCWMN"...."SAGEGAL"...."LIVN FRE"...."LA CREM"...."4R2SONS"...."SASYSIS"

6X6PINZ
Click for larger

And a few more... While parked at Catalina State Park, the Southwest Pinzgauer Association was parked in group camping when they weren't out on a four wheel drive road. Of the 15 vehicles present, several had vanity plates:

The one in the photo "6X6PINZ".... and... "ROBSPNZ"...."PINLNDR"..."6X6 SUV"...."UBER PNZ"
